In June of 2020 I took a social media sabbatical to concentrate on a book project I was starting about the year long journey of personal transformation that created the conditions for recovery in my family. While I am still eager to share that story, something else emerged that felt more urgent and in service to the 40 million mothers currently facing this challenging health condition with a loved one.
I've spent a decade learning about addiction and recovery and the impact on the family system. It's an undeniable thread woven through my family lineage. For the past six years I've been devoted to learning and working in the field of harm reduction, intervention and recovery. I wished I'd had a guide like this 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 40 years ago that would have oriented me to the landscape of substance use disorder and help me navigate the terrain and many pathways of recovery.
In The Lay of the Land, along with contributions from my friend Jen Lemen, we’ve shared how addiction works, what you can do and why your love matters. We’ve included practical actions, practices for well-being and our experience as mothers with young people in recovery.
I’ve just uploaded the final draft and made it available for purchase. I want to share it with you here tonight first. You can click here or on the image above to order the download and start reading it as soon as you like.
I can’t wait for you to read it. I hope it serves you well.
With so much love,
Shelly
